Geography
TYSA is dominant in Trans-nzoia district. However, inroad and contacts have been made in embracing the organization presence in the North Rift and Western Provinces: Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, West Pokot, Mt.Elgon, Marakwet and Turkana. Partnership for experience sharing has extended to groups, individuals in Kisumu, Kakamega, Nairobi, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Denmark, Canada and Germany.
Trans-Nzoia District hosts a multi cultural population composed of different tribes with different ethnical languages, traditional and social cultural diversity.It covers 2,487 square kilometers and has a population of about 575,662 of which 489,607 are in the rural areas and the remaining 86,055 in urban with an annual growth rate of 4.2%. The district headquarters are in Kitale town.Trans-Nzoia district is part of the greater North Rift Kenya with a total poupulation estimated at 5Million.. More than three quarters of the 42 Kenyan tribes and ethnic groups are represented in this district. It is one of the most cosmopolitan districts in the country.
Challenges facing the District
Over many decades, North Rift Kenya has experienced conflict caused by diverse cultural background. Many communities migrated to these areas after independence. Trans-Nzoia district for example hosts almost all the 42 tribes of Kenya. Ethnic violence is a common occurrence while cross boarder conflict exist causing deaths and loss of property. Many children and women seek refugee in Kitale. Kispongo slum in kitale town is home for such people fleeing from Conflict prone areas of West Pokot and Turkana and even neighboring countries. North Rift Kenya is characterized by:

- Prostitution especially for young girls
- High number of Street children

- High School drop out rates /Illiteracy
- Drug abuse
